Okay, you're staring at your Facebook page and wondering, "How on earth can I get my picture to go there and be my profile photo? Everyone else I know on Facebook has a profile photo. Why can't I?
Of course, the answer is not simple. You can't just beam your picture onto the Facebook page. But if you follow the steps below, you'll be looking at yourself on your Facebook page in no time at all.
Photo Uploading Instructions for Facebook
.) Identify the photo you want to upload. Is it already in your computer? Or in your digital camera or cell phone? Or is it an actual photo? Find this photo (making sure it's the kind of picture that won't frighten other FB users when they visit you there) and make a note of where it is. Note: It MUST be on your computer (or in your FB capable cell phone or PDA) before you can upload it to FB. So, if it's an actual photo, you'll need to scan it into your computer. Tips: Save it as a jpg image file. Drag or save the photo on your computer desktop so you can easily find it when you start uploading.
.) Go to your Facebook Profile page (notice that you have a Home page there with a live feed of others' posts etc. and you have a Profile page with other things, in addition to things you and others have posted to your "wall." You want to be on your Profile Page to upload this photo.
.) If your profile page has a "photos" link just under your name in that row of links, click on it. If you don't see that, click the + button there and add photos, following the instructions.
.) After clicking the "photos link" and/or adding the photos application to your profile page, look near the top of the page that opens and click on "+ Create a Photo Album."
.) Name this album: Profile Photos. You can give it a location if you want and a description. Choose the level of privacy you feel comfortable with, keeping in mind who will or will not be able to see your photo, depending on your level of privacy.
.) Click "Create an Album."
.) If the Java application that opens up works for you and your want to use it, fine. Accept it and use it. If not, look down on the page and click "Try the Simple Uploader (this is what I recommend). If you're on a Mac, click the "Check out the Facebook Exporter for iPhoto. If you're uploading from a camera phone, click the "Upload photos straight from your phone."
.) Next, if you've chosen to upload with the simple uploader, a window opens with several "Browse" buttons. Click the first one. A window opens that will show you the contents of your computer. Find your desktop and click on it and you will see the photo you put there for uploading. Choose it. Click Open and it will put a string of words that are the pictures' location on your computer into the space next to the Browse button on FB. Repeat this process if you want to upload more than one photo at one time.
.) Click the "I certify that . . . " box, after reading the Terms of Use by clicking on that link.
.) Click "Upload Photos."
.) You'll see the photo uploading. When it's done, you'll see your photo.
.) Click Save Changes and then Publish.
.) Back on your Profile page, click "edit profile" on the left side of your page.
.) Click "Photos."
.) Click on the photo you uploaded.
.) In the window that opens, click on "Make Profile Picture for Page". Answer "yes."
.) Congratulations! You now have a profile photo!
