Though Terry Bailey never hunted, as far as I know, he was my uncle, died young, and was the person I thought about most as I created the character of Uncle Clay, in Gone From These Woods. Click on the links to your right to read more.
George owned a large tract of rural land that bordered on the real lake that was the inspiration for the lake in my book. The character, Frank Hooper, in my book is based on George Langdale.
My book is not her story, but her story inspired me to create the fictional story in my book.

My debut middle grade novel, GONE FROM THESE WOODS, is entirely fictional. However, the idea for this fictional story grew out of a real story I heard as a child about the accidental shooting of my second grade teacher's husband by her nephew. The uncle in my fictional story was inspired by my real uncle who died young.
